The Alberta Distance Learning Centre is located in Barrhead with campuses in Edmonton, Calgary, and Lethbridge.  ADLC is the premier distance learning partner for primary and secondary education in Alberta. Since 1923, ADLC has worked with students, teachers, and administrators to provide distance education at any time, any place, and any pace. Operated by Pembina Hills Public Schools, under a service agreement with Alberta Education, ADLC offers print and online educational opportunities to students in Grades 1-12 and adult learners

 ADLC (Edmonton campus preferred) requires a Full-time Digital Design:  Web Specialist to work within the Communications and Marketing department.

 This position’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Website: project management, development, maintenance, writing, organization, and support for the school’s WordPress website, integrated custom Course Catalogue, and forthcoming OER sub-domain.

  • Graphic Design: creation of graphics and format conversions for web.

  • Brand Management: ensuring all online presence aligns to brand.

  • Editorial Style Management: ensuring online editorial style is upheld.

  • Public Relations: identifying, gathering, writing, and facilitating the collection of stories appropriate for web content.

  • Social Media: support and coordination of creation of content for the purpose of social media.

  • Internal & External Communications: support, creation, editing and quality assurance for internal and external communications for web delivery.

  • Events Planning: web support for event needs.


Knowledge and Skills required:

  • Exceptional understanding of web best practice.

  • Exceptional understanding and ability to implement web, including WordPress development, project management, keywords, writing for the web, digital advertising, and social media.

  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, including writing, editing, and proofreading.

  • Strong graphic design for web skills and the ability to manipulate formats for web.

  • Strong understanding of editorial style and tone, as they relate to brand, and the editorial process to ensure quality.

  • Understanding and ability to support key messages, and conduct interviews, research, writing, and editing.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and rectify problems.

  • Organization skills and ability to manage larger-scale projects.

  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve on-the-go.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to forge and maintain relationships.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in web design, communications, marketing, or a related field

  • Education, training, or relevant experience in digital or web development/social media

  • Education, training, or relevant experience in writing, editing and editorial style

  • Minimum of 3 years experience, demonstrating progressive responsibility.
